Pets Central

Thinking of going on an excursion with your dog? Here’s a handy checklist

As autumn nears, there’s no better way to spend quality time with your dog than to take them out on an excursion. Whether it’s a hike up the mountains, a visit to the dog park or a trip to an outlying island, both you and your pet will benefit from the fresh air and time away from the bustling city.

Before you set off, make sure you have packed the essentials. Here are some important items to bring along:

  • Collar and leash
  • Drinking water and bowl
  • Poop bags and dispenser
  • Towels
  • Toys
  • Treats

Apart from the above essentials, there are a few handy items you might want to bring along to keep you and your pet safe. These include:

  1. Doggy raincoat and umbrella

Living in Hong Kong, it’s common to see the weather change in an instant. When outdoors with your dog, consider bringing a lightweight pet raincoat so you can keep your furry friend dry and warm is it rains. Our Pets Central 3-fold umbrella is portable, durable and sturdy to keep you dry too.

  1. Life vest

For swimming, take your dog to the beach, but avoid streams, which be home to fatal viruses. Bring a doggy life vest with you to keep your pet from tiring out too quickly when swimming, especially in areas with currents or strong waves. It’ll also help keep their heads above water and reduce the chance of them swallowing unsanitary water.

  1. Outdoor first-aid kitWalking outdoor on rough road and mountain trails, can hurt your dog’s paws. If they ever get a scratch, cut or other minor injuries, a first aid kit will come in handy. Ideally, a well-equipped kit should contain:
  • Wrap bandages
  • Tape
  • Safety pins
  • Scissors
  • Foil blanket
  • Adhesive plasters
  • Alcohol prep pads
  • BZK antiseptic wipes
  • Disposable gloves
  • Pocket first-aid guide

We offer an all-inclusive first-aid kit that can keep your best furry friend safe in times of emergency.

  1. Clip-on bell and lamp

When the weather turns bad, it can get dark quickly. To keep track of your dogs, attach a bell and a lamp to your dog’s collar. This is also handy should your off-leash dog like to run ahead of you during a hike.

Going on hikes and excursions are great ways to have fun and strengthen the bond with your dog. Keep this checklist handy so you can have peace of mind on your next trip out with your furry pal.
