Enjoy the Rain with Your Dog!

Rainy days are not necessarily gloomy and sad. You could still don your wet weather gear and bring the dogs out for a walk/run/hike.

Make rainy days enjoyable for you and your dogs by taking note of a few things:

  1. Puddles of water are potential source of diseases, such as Leptospirosis and Giardiasis. Leptospirosis causes liver and kidney failure. Giardiasis leads to severe watery diarrhea. Get your dogs vaccinated up-to-date against Leptospirosis and refrain from letting them drink water from the ground as much as possible.
  2. Keep their coat clean and dry after the walks. Wet and matted coats may potentially trigger skin infection. Also, this will be a good time to check for ticks. It is recommended to apply tick prevention regularly during the wet season to prevent tick infestation.
  3. Keep their feet clean and dry post-walks. It is important to check in between toes for any foreign material (rock, grass, glass, insect etc.) which may cause irritation and pain. You may consider getting shoes/booties for your dogs.

Please check with your veterinarian if you have any concerns.

Have a great Summer!
